Garage door maintenance and safety inspections
Regular attention helps a garage door run quietly and reliably, and catches worn parts before they fail at an inconvenient moment. A maintenance visit keeps the door in good order; a safety inspection gives you a clear picture of its condition.
What this service covers
-
Preventive maintenance
Lubricating moving parts, tightening hardware, checking rollers and hinges, and adjusting where needed.
-
Balance and travel check
Testing whether the door holds partway open and travels smoothly, which shows how well the springs are matched.
-
Safety inspection
Checking springs, cables, drums, brackets, sensors and the opener’s automatic reversal.
-
Clear findings
A plain-language summary of what is in good order, what is wearing, and what needs attention now.
Common signs
A maintenance visit or inspection is worth booking when:
- The door has become noisier or less smooth than it used to be
- You have moved into a home and do not know the door’s history
- The door has not been looked at in a long time
- You want peace of mind before relying on the door every day
- You are unsure whether the reversal and sensors still work as they should
What the assessment involves
- We inspect the door’s moving parts and hardware with the door secured and, where appropriate, disconnected from the opener.
- We test balance, travel, sensor alignment and the reversal function.
- We note anything that is worn or out of adjustment and show you what we found where possible.
How we explain your options
Routine adjustments and lubrication are part of a maintenance visit. If we find a part that needs replacing, we explain why and agree it with you first — nothing extra is done without your approval.
If everything is in good order, we will tell you that too.
Questions about maintenance and safety inspections
What is the difference between maintenance and an inspection?
Maintenance is hands-on care: lubricating, tightening and adjusting. An inspection focuses on assessing condition and safety and reporting what we find. Many homeowners ask for both in one visit.
How often should a garage door be serviced?
It depends on how often the door is used and its condition. Doors used many times a day, or exposed to humidity, benefit from more frequent attention. We can suggest a sensible interval after seeing your door.
Can I lubricate the door myself?
Light lubrication of hinges and rollers with a garage-door-appropriate product is generally fine. Avoid working on springs, cables or the bottom brackets, which are under high tension.
